Below, for your reading pleasure, is the complete text of a lawsuit filed against Michigamua and the University of Michigan last week in Washtenaw County Circuit Court. The formatting is a bit screwy — sorry, this was a rush file conversion job.

I’m trying to track down a copy of the lawsuit filed in Washtenaw County Circuit Court against Michigamua last week to put up here for all to see. I’ve left messages for the only Christopher Bell in the phone book in Ann Arbor, and sent an email to the court administrator inquiring about how I can obtain the document. Anyone have other ideas?

Ok, people, I’m trying to give the old ‘gamua beat a break, but with big news, I just can’t resist:

This story in today’s Michigan Daily has people talking about Michigamua. To my surprise, I recieved a tip about a member via anonymous text message, a first for me. A reader also left this comment on an earlier post:
“I was listening to the radio tonight and I heard the debate on Michigamua. My friend who was in Michigamua said they merged with Phoenix and they now take on the Phoenix name. Hope that helps!”
The complete story is archived after the jump.

At the University of Michigan, the Native American Student Association (NASA) is seeking student organizations who want to sign a statement “In Solidarity Against Racism” whose signers agree to withhold support to any organization that maintains ties to Michigamua. Here’s the full statement:
In Solidarity Against Racism:
We the undersigned officially withhold our support, both now and into the future, from any organization that maintains ties to Michigamua. Since 1902, Michigamua has a documented history of discrimination, racism, and cultural appropriation. Michigamua has also been repeatedly deceitful and noncompliant in both inter-community dialogues and official University contracts and agreements. This behavior runs counter to our organizational mission and commitment to a safe, respectful campus community.
Organizations who want to add their name should email nasa-core (at) umich.edu.

Although in general the memory of the 2000 Michigamua Tower Occupation is fading at Michigan, I have been encouraged by a new crop of activists who have sought to bring attention to the organization. Jamie Shenk is one of those students. The president of M-agination films, a unit of the University Activity Center, he became interested in Michigamua and has been working on an objective documentary about the organization and the 2000 protest. I have provided him with what informational materials I have and consented to be interviewed later this month for the film. The film will premiere at the Michigan Theater in April 2006. I just discovered this link to a preview of the film he has released:
> Fight Like Hell Trailer (3.5 mb)
Another group of students engaging in public debate about the organization is Sara Burke, Trent Busakowski, Margaret Czerwiensk, Clara Hardie and Ashwini Hardikar. The group put together an exhibit in the Michigan League Underground about the organization. They have posted a number of photos (including the one to the left) on the web. Check them out here. In an email to friends, Clara explains the show:
This art show was an attempt to counter the hostile environment Michigamua’s existence has created at U of M. We wanted to show solidarity with those directly effected by the Michigamua’s racism, to make it visible that outrage continues. Pieces in the show that profiled current Gamua members are attempts to raise questions and break down the power of the affiliated student leaders in order to deconstruct the foundation of racism and elitism that Michigamua stands on. …
Ill be making a radio segment on Michigamua for the indy media Black Box Radio show in Ann Arbor next semester. Check out past segments and shows.
