I Want My Stuff Back

Missing

Inspired by this NY Times article, I decided to post this little announcement … Yesterday at the highly successful and fun monthly blogger meetup I host, my bag containing a notebook and my digital camera was stolen. It was taken between 9:00 and 10:30 PM from the outdoor seating area at Pharoah’s Rock N’ Blues in Adams Morgan, located at 1817 Columbia Rd. NW, Washington, DC 20009. The suspects who were loitering nearby just before the bag disappeared are two white males, estimated age 17-20 years. One approached us trying to sell a CD player, still in its original packaging.

The actual bag stolen was entirely dark blue, the camera is a Nikon Coolpix 2200 in a small black case, and the notebook is 8.5×5.5 in size, has a red cover, and contains miscellaneous notes. Give me my stuff back, you little punks!

Grad School

It’s official: I’m attending the Master of Community Planning program at the University of Maryland’s School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in the fall. It’s a two year master’s program in urban planning that requires an internship and studio project in addition to the coursework. I will also be a TA for the freshman introductory course in the Landscape Architecture Program for the fall semester.

Needless to say I am quite excited!

We’re Back

This site has been dark for a few days after the server it lived on croaked. However, thanks to quick thinking by friend and tech guru Scott Trudeau, we are up and running on a new server. Thanks, Scott!

Blog Work

I just installed the “recent-comments” and “most-commented” plugins written by Nick Momrik. I had no trouble at all installing either, I only wish the recent comments plugin had the option to display the date of the comment. I’ve also sprinkled some Google ads around (might as well, right?) and am considering tweaking the layout slightly to make the right hand column more narrow. Any suggestions?

Profile in American U Student Paper

Posted: November 7th, 2005 | Author: Rob Goodspeed | Filed under: District of Columbia, Site Announcements | 3 Comments »

I can’t resist sharing this profile of me that was printed in American University’s student newspaper. A few corrections: I probably will not make a career in journalism and my former co-editor’s name is Mike Grass, not Mike Brass. As for the rest, well, you can make up your own mind. The complete text is after the jump.

Rob Goodspeed knows what’s going on. And why shouldn’t he? He’s got a whole network of specialized editors to tell him every day. As editor of DCist, a fast-growing weblog documenting the District’s events, Goodspeed has to be on the alert for what’s happening so faithful readers can plan their social lives.

DCist, found at www.dcist.com, has risen to scoring 10,000 hits per day since its launch on Sept. 7, 2004. It’s part of a trend started in New York City by Gothamist LLC, and there are now 14 cities in the network, including Austin, San Francisco and most recently Miami.

DCist Help Wanted

Posted: June 24th, 2005 | Author: Rob Goodspeed | Filed under: Site Announcements | No Comments »

One
of the editors of DCist is leaving, and we’re looking for a
replacement. Catherine was one of the first people to join Mike and I
in our little endeavor, and has been an excellent and reliable blogger
and been instrumental helping DCist be so successful. We’ll be sad to
see her go! She has posted to her blog a description of who we’re looking for:

as it stands, my responsibilities at DCist aren’t entirely focused, but i do the following every week, or at least try to:
- write a weekly music agenda on mondays of shows that i think will be good
- do a DCist music interview with a local band, to be published on thursdays
- write a weekend picks post on fridays, highlighting interesting events on friday, saturday, and sunday
- try to write or solicit-and-edit one or two concert reviews every week or two.

If you are interested drop me a line. She also has these nice things to say about the site:

anyway,
DCist is totally great and has been one of the most positive things
i’ve ever been involved in. all the staff have become good friends, and
they’re an amazing group of motivated and talented people. i’m too sad
to be leaving, but since i have to, i want to find one (or two,
perhaps) really good, committed people that would be willing to cover
music stuff and help DCist grow even more awesome …
