I just uploaded a set of photos of the Heurich House and the Adams Morgan/Meridian Hill area of DC that I took today. The foundation which owns the Heurich House (also known as the “Brewmasters’ Castle,” after the occupation of its builder) is in danger of defaulting to the bank and losing the property. To save it, they are scrambling to raise $250,000 in the next two weeks and millions more in the next two years to pay off the loan they used to purchase the house from the D.C. Historic Society.
My friend and DCist co-founder Mike Grass as a special connection to the house: it contains woodcarvings done by his great-great grandfather. Mike recently wrote an excellent post about the history of the house, which he describes as one of the best preserved examples of a Victorian-era home in Washington. More information about the house and the funding crisis can be found at BrewmastersCastle.com

[…] There’s some good news for the Heurich House, a beautiful victorian mansion in DC that is facing auction if the nonprofit foundation that runs the house can’t come up with $250,000. Since I wrote about the home’s plight in January the group has raised $70,000 towards their goal and won pledges for more funds and support to come. […]
