I recently stumbled across this NPR story about bulletproof glass (Via Frozen Tropics) in two liquor stores in my neighborhood – Modern Liquors just down the street at 9th and M, and Best-In Liquor which has re-invented themselves with an expanded wine selection and no glass thanks to the booming development on their stretch of P Street. I dropped by Modern Liquors and spoke to the store manager who was excited about two new condo developments (see photos of one) which will bring over 250 luxury units to within 2-blocks of the store. The store is also on the route between the buildings and the nearest Metro Station (Mt. Vernon Square). The Whitman, pictured here, is scheduled to open late in 2006 according to DCLofts.com, which says:
New 185-unit condo located across from the new Convention Center and the Mount Vernon Metro Station. Will have rooftop lounge and pool. One and two-level residences, some with balconies and oversized terraces. All units include garage parking. Originally priced from the mid-$300’s for 1 bedroom units, mid-$400’s for 2 bedrooms, and $900’s for 3 bedrooms. As of July 2005, 1 bedrooms are priced from the low $400’s, low $500’s for 1 bedroom/den units, and starting in the $600’s for 2 bedroom units.
