Read my interview in this weeks Chief newspaper, page 5 about the illegal vans/car services. Bus operators on the b-74 route in Coney Island are being overrun by these illegal dollar cars. We are cut off, blocked out of stops ect...buses are late ect

Tel Aviv has this, too. 13 or 16-passenger Sprinter vans that run along the popular bus routes, called 'sherut' (literally, shared). It's 5 shekels (slighly less than the bus), with the only real drawback being that you can't use a monthly pass or reduced fare card. They only take as many passengers as seats, so once it fills up, it's an express bus to the next person's stop (although, if it's full, it's not stopping for you). They also run on Shabbat (3 hours before sunset Friday until 2 hours after sunset Saturday), which means that for one day a week, the sheruyot function as the city's public transit system.
