ArborUpdate.com
I have been working on helping launch a local news website to replace some of the functions of this site, and provide a central source of news and information for the Ann Arbor progressive community.Called arborupdate.com, it will be operated by a group of some of the area's most innovative activists, bloggers, and journalists. The site comes in response to a lack of good media targeting the University community, and will feature comprehensive coverage of local news, an events calendar, and timely and incisive commentary. Read more about the site's participants in the launch press release: "Local bloggers launch news website"

Uhhh, where's the diversity you whacked-out lefties love to blather on about?
The new staff is a bunch of white, male, liberal UM students. One female, one black kid. Wow.
You couldn't find any conservatives to help balance things out and lend credibility?
You couldn't find anyone who isn't a student or employee at UM? Keep in mind, you named it "Arborupdate," not "UMupdate"
I guess it's just another case of lefties preaching one thing and practicing another.

Two of the human beings listed are not students or employees of the University. Best to RTFA before you comment.
For the most part, the balance of your statements are errors of rhetoric, and not of fact, so I'll say no more.

OK, rewind 45 days. Ari and Rob are still students.
See my point? It's not like they have experiences that are different than students. They may have graduated a month ago, but they haven't experienced anything that one doesn't experience as a student at UM. They aren't Ann Arbor citizens, they are UM students. And liberals. And white. And male.
Just like everyone else on the Arborupdate staff, as well as the Michigan Daily that they are ripping off.
*yawn*
My kingdom for a little originality. I mean, that *is* the purpose of diversity, after all. Someone who expresses things from a different perspective, challenging your mind and making you think in a different light.
Why not hit up Brian Stephens or Dave Boyle or Ruben Duran or, I don't know...
Here's a novel idea, how about you go find someone who isn't a UM student who *likes* Ann Arbor the way it is? Maybe someone who is happy that there is a new Starbucks close to her apartment so that she doesn't have to hop in her car to get a decent cup of coffee or doesn't have to settle for that fair trade crap that tastes like it was brewed in someone's jockstrap?
The champions of diversity have created a liberal sausagefest that is whiter than a bag of marshmallows.
Imagine that.

While I dunno if I would wanna crowd/clog the ArborUpdate staff who have so many folx already...thanks to T.J. for mentioning some names including mine.
Also, while one may not agree with his sentiment, "The champions of diversity have created a liberal sausagefest that is whiter than a bag of marshmallows.", that sentence counts as poetry if nothing else.

TJ, I thought you have said here before that you didn't like Starbucks? And while it's a little white to start, it's just that, a start. Also, I think the idea is to cover the U-M community. We're not trying to either cover the entire city or be an "objective" news source.

God, Teej, do you stroke your cock while you write this, or do you keep your virtual and actual masturbation seperate?
Hey, why not complain about Goodspeedupdate.com right now? I mean, it's run by a liberal, but the staff is 100% white! Where's the commitment to diversity?
The thing I'm more concerned about is that of the people that are going to be writing ArborBlogs, there are only one or two of them that have blogs that I find interesting with any regularity.
But hey, don't let a little critical thinking get in the way of your rhetoric, Teej. Wouldn't want to slow down your frothing. You're just pissed that they haven't given Ruben another platform to spew his bullshit, since he's the only minority conservative you know (this time as an actual "token," something I'd hope he'd at least be mildly opposed to).
I know you're trolling, but at least have some sort of leg to stand on.

Rob,
I wasn't talking about Starbucks as if I like it. In all honesty, I don't really mind it. It's too expensive, I will take the $1.60 cup that FCB sells, but that's just me. I am not much of a coffee guy.
What I was trying to do was illustrate that there are people who *DO* like Starbucks, which is why there are so many of them. And the people you picked for Arborupdate are people who don't, and they don't like it for political reasons. I just wish there were more of a bi-partisan effort.
I know you don't intend to be bi-partisan at all. It's for liberals. But does EVERYTHING in Ann Arbor have to be for liberals? Do you realize what a hateful, oppressive environment that it creates for a conservative interested in being involved on campus and in the city when their faiths and political beliefs are insulted continually? Given that EVERY media publication within a 20 mile radius of Ann Arbor is decidedly liberal, do you really think that Arborupdate needs to be more of the same? Would it hurt to have something bi-partisan?
In all honesty, I bet more people would read if it were bi-partisan. Controversy sells, I know this. But when EVERYWHERE YOU GO is a liberal protest of something, it might be a breath of fresh air for someone to be able to go to a site that is all about their (adopted) hometown, discussing things going on around them, without it being just another liberal activist soapbox. And no, not everyone loves either the Daily/Goodspeed Update or the Review. There are people in the middle who would probably LOVE to be able to read something bi-partisan for once.
Finally, you may not intend to cover the entire city, but the title you chose indicates that you do. You obviously picked a misleading title.
As for the anonymous coward, no, Ruben is not the only minority conservative I know. My girlfriend, Charles Adside, Jim Yeh, Anita Leung, Paul Scott, James Dickson, I could go on and on and on. I know plenty of reasonable people. I know lots of liberals too.

Help
Do I need a "password" or something to post as myself?
It sez "This blog does not allow anonymous comments.", by the way, but I'm posting "anonymously" cos need details on "password" etc. So looks like several things need correcting/clarifying/etc.

Not to beat a dead horse but the two non-students aren't Rob and Ari, they're Scott Trudeau and Brian Kerr, both of whom have what are known as "jobs" and live in what is known as the "Ann Arbor Community." Nice try though, really.
OK, this dead horse is officially rockete into deep space.
Mark Dilley is not now, nor has he ever been, a student at the University of Michigan. He does not work (directly) for the University.

No David, you should be able to post anonymously. If not, let me know and I'll look into it. Thoughts on the new comments, everyone?
