I just added this year's "Academic Freedom Lecture" to the calendar. The lecture is held each year to honor three U-M professors who told McCarthy to take a hike, causing two to be fired by the University. This year's speaker is David Cole, a professor of law at Georgetown, and he will be speaking on “Freedom and Terror: September 11th and the 21st Century Challenge” at 4:00 PM on October 20 in 100 Hutchins Hall in the Law Quad.Also of note, they have announced the speaker for 2004: Noam Chomsky.
