STUDENT WOODSHOP CLOSEDThe Goodspeed Update has learned that the Student Woodshop has been closed as a victim of budget cuts. Operating since 1968, today's closing came to a surprise to the woodshops's eight part-time employees. The woodshop was jointly operated by Royster Harper's Office of Student Affairs and the Michigan Union Arts and Programs Office. The closing will potentially disrupt a number of long-range projects such as wooden canoes. A petition and possibly other actions to reverse the decision are currently being planned. Watch this website for updates. For more information about the woodshop, see this 1999 article in the Daily.
